Possible COVID Exposure At Luke Bryan Concert

27 individuals who tested positive for COVID-19 attended the outdoor concert held in a Conway Township farmer’s field on Saturday, September 18th. According to a press release, during the case investigations conducted by LCHD and other local health departments, it was determined that other attendees may also have been exposed.

Longtime Brighton Preservationist Passes Away

Marieanna Bair passed away Wednesday at the age of 95. Bair was an active member of the Brighton Area Historical Society from its founding in 1981, a board of directors member for 38 years and the society’s president for 15 of those years.

Milford Murder Still a Mystery Forty Years Later

The partially clothed body of 20-year-old Anne Marie Doroghazi was found by a young boy on the morning of September 29th, 1981 in a ditch near Camp Dearborn in Milford Township. An autopsy ruled the cause of death as strangulation.

Board Meeting Derails Over Quarantine Issue

Several parents addressed the board, stating that because so few students who were quarantined actually got COVID, the policy makes quarantining punitive and puts those students behind their peers in the classroom unnecessarily.

Blazejewski Can't Hold MDHHS Seat & Council Seat

Lee Ann Blazejewski, a nurse who is also currently running for Howell City Council, was appointed to serve on Livingston County’s Department of Health and Human Services Board even though members are “appointed from persons residing within the county and not holding an elective office.”

Commissioners Appoint Blazejewski To MDHHS Board

Lee Ann Blazejewski, who has publicly opposed masks in schools and the COVID vaccines, while also recommending the use of a controversial livestock de-wormer as a COVID treatment, was approved to sit on the county's Michigan Department of Health & Human Services Board.

Brighton Fire Chief Receives International Recognition

Fire Chief Michael O’Brian has been accorded the prestigious Robert W. Gain Fire Prevention Leadership Award by the International Code Council. The award was presented last Tuesday at the ICC Gala in Pittsburgh during its annual conference.

Huron River Expected To Crest Later Today

The National Weather Service Detroit/Pontiac Office reports that as of 3:15 Monday morning the river’s level was at 7.44 feet, nearly a foot above flood stage, which is 6.5 feet.

49-year-old Dennis Michael Maynarich was charged with four counts of armed robbery and seven weapons charges for a variety of incidents culminating in the robbery last year at the Rottermond Jewelers on North Main Street.

Bridge Repair Causes Lane Restrictions On I-96

The Michigan Department of Transportation started construction Monday on a portion of the Williamston Road bridge over I-96 following an incident in March in which a truck crash into the bridge's support beam.

NTSB Report: Fatal Crash Caused By Faulty Intake Installation

The August 20th, 2019 crash of the Aero Commander 200D occurred as it attempted to take off from the Spencer J. Hardy Livingston County Airport. Killed were 64-year-old Philip Colmer, who was piloting the single-engine plane, and 68-year-old James Tafralian, who was a passenger.

YouTube Reinstates County Board Meeting Videos

Some videos of Livingston County Board of Commissioners meetings were earlier removed for violating YouTube’s Medical Misinformation Policy, which was believed to be tied to the Call to the Public section of the meeting.

Pinckney Schools Pauses Alternative Quarantine

Pinckney Community Schools (PCS) Superintendent Rick Todd said that due to a “variety of factors” he was not comfortable with the Livingston County Health Department’s alternative quarantine program, prompting him to put a "pause" on it.

District Hires New Pupil Accounting Director

The Brighton Area Schools has hired a new Director of Pupil Accounting. Superintendent Matt Outlaw announced the hiring of Annie Kruger at the Board of Education meeting Monday night. She replaces Teresa Hapsburg, who retired this summer.

Jones Attorney Withdraws From Case

The attorney for Democratic State Rep. Jewell Jones of Inkster has withdrawn from the case, citing a "breakdown in the attorney/client privilege." Jones is facing multiple felony charges, including two new ones filed this week after authorities say he tried to smuggle a handcuff key into the Livingston County Jail.

An online hearing was held Tuesday by the Michigan Court of Appeals on whether an expert in coerced confessions can testify as a witness for Jerome Kowalski, who is facing a second trial in the 2008 murders of his brother and sister-in-law in their Oceola Township home.

Police Arrest S. Lyon Man For Carjacking & Robbery

The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office says deputies were dispatched at 11:56 Wednesday night to the South Lyon Police Department, where a man reported that he had been robbed while in the Kroger parking lot at Eight Mile and Pontiac Trail.

Funding For BAS Pack Of Dogs On Workshop Agenda

Trustee Bill Trombley said the program has been going, in effect, on a wing and a prayer and needs more stable funding than to merely rely on donations, as it does currently. In response, Supt. Matt Outlaw will put the program on the agenda for the October workshop.

BAS Board Grants Contract Extensions

Approved on a 5-0-1 vote were contract renewals with building level administrators and department heads, represented by the Brighton Area Schools Administrators Association (BASAA). BASAA represents 16 principals, assistant or grade level principals, and department directors.

Healthcare Leaders Urge Commissioners To Accept COVID Funding

John O'Malley, the President of the St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital & Brighton Health Center, and Dr. David Miller, the President of the University of Michigan Health System, say they were "extremely disappointed in the Board's failure to approve" the more than $1.5 million on COVID funding from the state.

GFL Officially Ends Service In Putnam Township

Friday was the last day the company officially handled the Putnam routes, although officials say they began to have issues in June when GFL stopped picking up garbage. That eventually forced them to switch services. It was estimated that at least half of Putnam residents were GFL customers

Zajac’s Resolution Seeks Noncompliance To Biden Vaccine Order

Livingston County Commissioner Mitchell Zajac put forth a resolution to declare that Livingston County will not comply with what he called an “unconstitutional OSHA mandate” following President Biden’s announcement that all employers with more than 100 workers must require them to be vaccinated or test for the virus weekly.

Poll: Michiganders Want More Affordable Health Care

A recent poll of about 600 Michigan voters finds neatly 80% agree the amount they pay for health care seems to be going up every year. More than a quarter said they had overdue or unpaid medical bills they were struggling to pay off at the time of the survey.

Proposed Commission Maps Due September 20th

Second Suspect Enters Plea In Fowlerville Gun Robbery

Court records show that 20-year-old Brandon McClure entered a guilty plea last week in U.S. District Court in Detroit. In exchange, prosecutors will recommend his term be at the lower end of the guidelines which call for a maximum of five years in prison.

Protesters Demand Mask Mandate From Livingston County Health Department

The protestors, carrying signs that said “Science in not an opinion” and “Do your job. Protect our community”, turned up at 4:45pm and held a peaceful demonstration in front of the agency they say has the power to protect their kids from the current surge of COVID-19, but has declined to do so.
