There are three things promised in life.
Death. Taxes. And crazy unexplained victories by Fenton over Linden.
The freeway rival offered another strange twist when Fenton won its 14th consecutive regular season game over Linden by the wild and crazy score of 49-42, which clinched another Flint Metro League Stripes Division title for the Tigers.
These games are always nailbiters and you’d think Linden would come out on top sometimes. Last season, the Tigers screamed “home grown” following a 46-41 victory over Linden where coaches and players accused Linden of using Flint players to try to topple the Tigers.
The season before, Fenton won 24-21 and before that 40-32 and 28-21. Of the 14 wins 11 have been one-score games and two went into overtime.
Linden has won one game since 2013. In 2022 Linden blew out Fenton in a playoff game 35-7 after losing to the Tigers 28-21 during the regular season.
It’ been a crazy series and it is the most entertaining rivalry series of all the rival games we cover. Linden-Fenton tops Howell-Brighton when it come to drama.

** Pinckney and Fowlerville face one another this Friday and I feel partly responsible. After settling into this beat I questioned why these similar sized schools a stones throw from one another did not meet.
They are not in the same conference, but these schools were facing non-conference foes up to three hours away. So, I began bugging officials and they finally agreed to meet. It seems the feud began after the 2020 game when Fowlerville officials believed Pinckney ran up the score during a 41-0 victory.
All has been forgiven now.
