Good sportsmanship breaks out in heated battle between Fenton and Holly
December 30, 2025
Fenton junior guard Jakyi Brown – Abston is no stranger to mixing it up on the basketball court. He got into a minor skirmish, which drew a technical foul during a game with heated rival Holly.
There is another side to Abston. He believes in sportsmanship. So. It did not surprise many when he helped Holly forward Aiden Hignite off the court when he twisted his right ankle. The gesture came when the two teams were locked in mortal combat during a game where Holly finally got the last punch in an 83-82 overtime victory.
“I think I’m a good guy,” Abston said. “He needed help and I was there to help him. I believe in good sportsmanship.”
Abston helped a guy who was cooking his team. Hignite scored 31 points, including the game-winning free throw with 1.6 seconds remaining in overtime to pull out a heart-stopping victory for the Bronchos.
“I was a little surprised that he came over to help me,” Hignite said. “All I could do was say thanks to him.”
It’s always a ferocious battle when Fenton and Holly lock horns. They played with tenacity and ferocity during a recent game in Fenton. There is more to come Jan. 30 during a rematch at Holly.
