Pete Cender, a Howell grad who played tight end at Grand Valley last season, has been drafted by the Edmonton Eskimos of the Canadian Football League. Cender played the last three seasons at Grand Valley after two seasons with the Air Force Academy. He’ll report to Edmonton for training camp on May 15th. Elsewhere, Howell’s Dillon French has signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Concordia University in Ann Arbor.

On the field, Brighton’s Bryce Calka had a goal and two assists as the Bulldogs took a 5-0 soccer win at Howell, Hartland blanked Northville 2-0 and Pinckney beat Ypsilanti Lincoln 9-1. In softball, Maddie Gillett and Avery Wolverton hit back to back homers in the fifth inning of Howell’s 9-5 win over Walled Lake Western. In that game, pitcher Molly Carney recorded her 500th career strikeout. In baseball, Hartland rolled past Novi 12-0 and Pinckney lost to Chelsea 7-4. In boys lacrosse, John Aurandt had eight goals as Brighton downed Warren de la Salle 22-11, while in girls tennis, Pinckney beat Lincoln 7-1 while Hartland fell to Plymouth 8-0.
