Harbor Springs, MI — A 130-year-old ship is being restored with plans to move it to a city park in northern Michigan. The Petoskey News-Review reports the Harbor Springs Area Historical Society and the Industrial Arts Institute in Onaway are working together on restoring the Aha. Once the work is done, the vessel is expected to be taken to Shay Park in downtown Harbor Springs, about 300 miles from Detroit. The all-steel ship was built in 1891 by Harbor Springs resident Ephraim Shay. It was being towed to storage in the 1930s when the ship began to take on water and was beached at a creek.
