MOUNT CLEMENS, Mich. — Michigan's third-largest county is taking steps to create a public defender office. The Detroit News reports that Macomb County posted an administrator job for the office, which drew 51 applicants. Interviews are scheduled to begin next month and county officials hope to fill the position in March. County officials say the size of the office is yet to be determined. Currently, public defenders are assigned through a case manage committee with attorneys selected by rotation based on their eligibility and the complexity of the case.
