A retired police officer was arrested after police say he shot and killed a New York City utility worker on the George Washington Bridge Tuesday, according to authorities.

The NYPD said Victor Romero, 62, of Haverstraw, faces a murder charge after he allegedly shot and killed Con Edison worker Koran Irvine, 46, of Valley Cottage.

It appeared to be a road rage attack involving the two Rockland County residents, George Washington Bridge," the NYPD said.

When investigators arrived, the victim was discovered unconscious and unresponsive in the driver's seat of a vehicle with a gunshot wound to the rear of the right shoulder.

The victim was taken to Englewood Hospital, where he died, police said.

Romero was driving in a black Range Rover at the time, according to the New York Daily News.

According to his social media, Irvine had just celebrated working for Con Edison for 20 years and posted about the accomplishment in September.

"We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of a member of the Con Edison family in this senseless act of violence," Con Edison said in a statement, FOX 5 New York reported.

"Our deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues and everyone who knew and loved him."

An online fundraiser for Irvine's family said in part, "Koran was a man full of life, love, and dedication to the people who meant the most to him. His family was his world, and he worked hard every day to provide for and support his wife, Patricia, and their children, Lea and Hiro. He loved deeply, valued his relationships, and always strived to give his family the best life possible."
