Two young children and a father are recovering in the hospital after investigators say a Texas mother went on a stabbing spree inside the family's home on Tuesday.

Holly Leeann Flores, 37, of Northlake, Texas, is accused of stabbing her two children, a 10-month-old infant and a 3-year-old toddler, before the children's father tried to intervene, investigators say.

Her husband, 34, called 911 early Tuesday morning saying his wife had a knife and stabbed him; when first responders arrived they found the children with chest-area stab wounds.

"Officers were dispatched to a residence in the 1200 block of Daylily Drive regarding a stabbing in progress," police say.

Flores' husband was reportedly stabbed in the head and was treated for a "non-life-threatening" stab wound, aggravated capital murder of a person under 10 years of age and aggravated assault with a weapon.

During a Tuesday news conference, Northlake Police Chief Robert Crawford called the incident "heartbreaking."
