A Maryland man charged with killing a 12-year-old girl while allegedly firing at two men near a youth football game was released from prison just eight days before the deadly shooting.
Tyree Reynolds, 23, was released from state custody on Sept. 25, according to argument over a parking spot. Investigators allege Reynolds reached into a backpack, pulled out a short-barreled rifle and began firing.
One of the men returned fire, striking Reynolds in the ankle. Reynolds then allegedly fired toward the football field, striking 12-year-old Khloe Ishway and three other victims.
Ishway died from her injuries.
"Khloe was just 12 years old. She should have a whole life ahead of her: school, a career, time spent with family and friends. Instead, she was killed because two adult men resorted to deadly violence to resolve an argument over a parking spot," Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott said.
"Our hearts remain with Khloe's mother, her family and friends, and our entire community, and we are committed to getting justice on their behalf," he continued.
At the time of the shooting, Reynolds was on probation stemming from a previous shooting for which he had recently completed his prison sentence.
"The Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services is heartbroken by the tragic death of 12-year-old Khloe Ishway and the injuries to innocent bystanders," the agency said in a statement. "Tyree Reynolds was previously sentenced to 15 years of incarceration, with all but five years suspended by a judge. Reynolds served the entirety of that five-year term, day for day, and was released on September 25, 2026."
Reynolds was arrested three times in 2021. In February of that year, he was arrested on a handgun possession charge and was granted pretrial release.
Before he was sentenced in that case, Reynolds was arrested again in connection with a March 2021 assault and later in connection with a July 2021 shooting that was never prosecuted, according to Fox 45 News.
Reynolds later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of first-degree assault and a firearms violation. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison, followed by three years of probation.
A judge suspended all but five years of the 15-year sentence, which Reynolds served in full before his release in September.
