An urgent manhunt is underway in Massachusetts for a 58-year-old woman who police warn may be armed after a Worcester police officer was found dead at her home.
The Worcester Police Department said in an alert that officers are actively seeking Karen Solomon "regarding the death of a male at her residence."
Police described her as a 58-year-old White woman with dark brown hair and brown eyes last seen wearing pajama shorts and a tank top and walking toward Westcott Street.
"There is concern she may be armed," the department said. Police have not publicly identified the man or said how he died.
Police said the officer found dead was a 30-year veteran of the force and was off duty at the time he was found.
The officer who died has been identified as 31-year Worcester Police Department veteran Kurt Solomon, according to the New England Police Benevolent Association.
The NEPBA announced Solomon's death Tuesday, remembering him as an "incredibly dependable officer, colleague and friend" who dedicated more than three decades to serving the Worcester community.
The association said the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Solomon's death remains active and that authorities are working to locate the individual being sought.
Solomon is survived by his sons, Niklas and Brandon; his mother, Shirley; and his brothers, Karl and Eric, according to the NEPBA.
CBS Boston reported that Massachusetts State Police were searching the area with a helicopter and that a special emergency response team was being brought in to search nearby woods. Fox News has reached out to authorities for confirmation and additional details.
Solomon's home is on Wildwood Avenue, where authorities are conducting the death investigation, contact authorities.
