A Florida man was arrested after human remains were discovered inside two suitcases in a remote area, authorities said.
According to Brevard County Sheriff’s Office booking records, Lucas Sander Jones, 19, of Indialantic, was initially arrested on charges including tampering with evidence, abuse of a dead human body and improper disposal of human remains. He was released after posting a $7,500 bond, records show.
Jail records indicate Jones was later re-arrested and is now being held without bond on a charge of second-degree murder.
Police said the investigation began on March 28, when officers responded to a call in Palm Bay to an area known locally as "The Compound," a largely undeveloped tract of land in Central Florida.
According to a police affidavit obtained by blood stains and a knife like one recovered from a suitcase.
Authorities have not yet publicly confirmed the identity of the victim. However, investigation remains active as officials work to confirm the identity of the victim.
Jones is scheduled to be arraigned on April 21.
