An hours-long standoff at a bank in Bakersfield, California, ended Wednesday morning with an FBI-involved shooting.
The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene, and all hostages were unharmed, police said.
"On Wednesday, June 3, at approximately 4:20 a.m., the hostage situation concluded following an officer-involved shooting involving Federal Bureau of Investigation personnel. Bakersfield Police Department personnel were not involved in the use of force. All hostages were located unharmed and received medical evaluation and treatment at the scene," the Bakersfield Police Department noted in an updated barricaded himself inside the building with several community members," the department added.
The department later announced in an X post issued just after midnight ET that it had "negotiated the release of a second hostage."
"There are currently no injuries reported," the post noted at the time.
Before police announced the end of the hostage situation, JPMorgan Chase said in a statement to Fox News Digital, "We are aware of the ongoing situation occurring at the building where our branch is located on the ground floor. The branch is currently empty, and we are working with authorities."
The FBI Sacremento said it was supporting the response to the incident.
