As the City of Wixom continues to grow, so does the cost for services. City Council on Tuesday approved a nearly $17.8 million budget for next fiscal year, which includes a handful of tax and fee hikes.
"We're looking at 13.2503 as the total millage, mainly affected by the road millage that was voted on in November. That increased by 1.3643," said Finance Director Marilyn Stamper.
"We still stand as the tenth lowest across the 31 cities in Oakland County."
While sewer utility rates and cap charges will remain flat, homeowners will have to shell out more for other services.
"The solid waste fee will be set at $183, which is an $11 increase over last year," said Stamper. "Water utility rates will go up an average of 3.5 percent" to $43.95 per unit.
Stamper said the increase in water utility rates had always been the plan when reviewing the system.
One last minute budget change by Council involved reducing the Parks and Recreation budget for a fitness trail at Gunnar Mettala Park from $325,000 to $250,000, reducing the number of planned exercise stations from 23 down to 12.
