Waterford Police: 10-Year-Old Critically Injured in Two-Car Crash

A 10-year-old was in critical condition at last check following a crash in Waterford Wednesday evening.
According to police, the child was in the backseat of a Ford Escape traveling south on Cass Lake Road, when it was struck by a Jaguar turning westbound onto Highland Road around 6 pm.
A preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the Jaguar, a 17-year-old male from Waterford, disregarded the red light, striking the Escape, driven by a 19-year-old Waterford resident.
Evidence of marijuana use was recovered from driver's floorboard of the Jaguar and is believed to be a factor in the crash.
A search warrant was obtained for blood analysis of the driver. That driver was admitted to a local hospital with moderate injuries.
The 19-year-old driver of the Escape and a 22-year-old front seat passenger sustained moderate injuries and both were admitted to a local hospital.
A 14-year-old rear seat passenger sustained minor injuries, was transported to the hospital, treated and later released.
A 10-year-old sustained a serious head injury and was transported to DMC Detroit Receiving Hospital in critical condition.
The crash investigation is ongoing.
