Waterford Police report a 69-year-old man was killed when struck by a van while crossing Cooley Lake Road Saturday night.

According to a release, it happened around 10:33 pm along Cooley near Hiller Road.

A preliminary investigation revealed a 2001 Ford Econoline Van was traveling westbound on Cooley Lake Road, approaching the intersection of Hiller Road.

The pedestrian, a Waterford man, began crossing Cooley Lake from the south side and failed to yield the right of way to traffic. He was struck by the Ford van, driven by an 81-year-old man from White Lake Township.

The man sustained significant injuries and was transported to McLaren Oakland Hospital where he later died.

Neither drugs nor alcohol appear to be a factor as it relates to the driver of the van.

The crash investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to contact Officer Miller at (248) 618-6062.
