Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murphy on Sunday issued a warning of another text message scam claiming to be from the "Michigan Department of Motor Vehicles" seeking payment for an outstanding traffic ticket.

The text message warns the recipient "Enforcement Penalties Begin on June 10" if payment is not received by June 9.

The sheriff's department, along with the Michigan Department of Transportation and several other law enforcement agencies have warned of similar scams involving unpaid tolls.

They urge anyone who receives these texts to never click on the link provided, and delete them immediately.

MDOT and others have repeatedly said they never send notices of payment via text message.
