Members of the Livingston Regional Transportation Consortium (Livingston RTC), which includes several Livingston County school districts, will host a Bus Driver Try-It-Out Day on Wednesday.
The event runs from 4 to 7pm and will provide a hands-on opportunity for community members to explore what it takes to become a school bus driver.
The event will take place at the Howell Public Schools Transportation Department, located at 1313 W. Highland Road in Howell. It is designed to give participants firsthand insight into the responsibilities of a school bus driver.
Attendees will have the chance to get behind the wheel of a bus in a safe, controlled setting. A commercial driver’s license (CDL) is not required to participate.
Bus drivers and trainers from across Livingston County will be available to answer questions, explain the CDL training process, and describe the day-to-day experience of transporting students.
The event may appeal to parents seeking a schedule that aligns with the school calendar or to retirees looking for flexible, part-time work that supports their local schools.
Livingston County school districts are currently hiring full-time and substitute bus drivers for the upcoming school year.
Available positions include a sign-on bonus of up to $5,000, paid CDL training, school-year schedules, paid holidays, retirement benefits, and medical coverage. For more information about bus driver opportunities in Livingston County, visit BeABusDriver.org.
The Livingston Regional Transportation Consortium includes Brighton Area Schools, Hartland Consolidated Schools, Howell Public Schools, the Livingston Educational Service Agency, and Pinckney Community Schools.
