The M.H.O.G. Sewer and Water Authority is reporting a sanitary sewer overflow that occurred at Pump Station 5, located at 2172 East Grand River in Howell.
During a routine check today, staff discovered signs of a broken force main, including saturated ground and bubbling at the surface. Crews quickly shut down the damaged line and redirected flow through a backup line to prevent further discharge. Some sewage surfaced but was promptly contained and pumped back into the system.
An estimated volume of less than 2,500 gallons was released. There is no indication that surface waters were impacted, and all appropriate containment actions were taken immediately.
A contractor has already visited the site and is coordinating repair work.
