Officials are investigating a weekend house fire near the unincorporated hamlet of Hell.
The Putnam Township Fire Department was called at about 1:20 a.m. Saturday, to a house fire on the 11000 block of Kelly Road, Fire Chief Curt Ruf said.
Firefighters were on the scene pretty quickly and extinguished the blaze, Ruf said.
There was damage to about half the house, mostly the back side, he said.
It appears the fire started in the basement and extended up into the kitchen and the roof above, he said.
The husband and wife who live in the house got out just fine, Ruf said. The husband, who was trying to put out the blaze before crews arrived, was treated for a minor ankle injury, he said.
The department is still investigating to determine the cause of the fire, but there’s no reason to suspect arson, Ruf said.
