A Northville man faces felony charges following a high-speed police chase across the Mackinac Bridge earlier this week.

According to the Emmet County Sheriff's Office, a deputy was attempting to make a traffic stop for speeding Monday, when the driver, now identified as 27-year-old Jack Maibach of Northville, took off.

The sheriff's office said Maibach crashed through a gate arm of a Mackinac Bridge toll booth, before driving the wrong way on I-75 into St. Ignace.

The deputy was called off the chase due to public safety concerns, but the chase was picked up by St. Ignace Police.

Maibach's vehicle later became disabled, and he attempted to carjack a young mother and her child, but she drove off with Maibach hanging onto her car for a brief moment.

Maibach was eventually taken into custody at a nearby hotel. He faces charges of fleeing and eluding, carjacking, and resisting and obstructing an officer.
