Michigan State Police Brighton Post, along with other agencies in Livingston and Oakland counties, are investigating a case of counterfeit money seized from a home in Brighton Township last Friday.

According to a post shared on X, the case dates back to March 28, when troopers were dispatched to a residence for a larceny complaint involving counterfeit money.

The victims reported a man had purchased a drone for $800.00 and paid with cash. The victims discovered the funds were counterfeit and contacted police.

Troopers along with detectives conducted an investigation using various investigated tools to develop possible suspects.

It was found that suspects were making purchases through various on-line marketplaces, meeting with the sellers and paying for items with counterfeit cash.

The investigation also found that other police agencies in Livingston and Oakland County had ongoing investigations dealing with purchases with counterfeit cash that the suspects were believed to be involved.

On Friday, a search warrant was executed on a residence in Brighton Township, resulting in the seizure of over $100,000 in counterfeit money, cellphones and a computer.

The investigation is ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, a request for charges will be sent to the Livingston County Prosecutor for review.
