The Livingston County Veterans Council has named its August Veteran of the Month.

It’s Gerald (Jerry) Shipley, a U.S. Army Specialist, who served in the U.S. Army from 1961–1964.

After overcoming early hardships following his service, Shipley dedicated more than 15 years to helping vulnerable residents across the county — driving people to medical appointments, assisting with food access, and supporting those in crisis.

Shipley also volunteers with Gleaners Community Food Bank, St. Joseph Catholic Church, and is active with Brighton AMVETS, American Legion Post 141, and the American Legion Riders Post 141.

The Council asks that the community join in honoring Shipley as the August Veteran of the Month, saying his “quiet, consistent service reflects a lifelong commitment to helping others”.
