Some big improvement projects have been underway at Island Lake Rec Area.
State Park officials said they’ve made great strides in park improvements this past year, but are still focused on completing a few crucial projects.
Currently, the modern restrooms at both Kent Lake and Spring Mill Pond are closed for sewage pump replacements, with a target to re-open them by the first week of June. In the meantime, portable toilets are available near the parking lots for the convenience of visitors.
Modern restrooms located at the Hickory Shelter and Dodge Shelter are also open daily for use. A map is provided.
Additionally, the park recently announced the brand-new self-rental kayak rack at Kent Lake Beach is now open. People can dive into the fun with a selection of 7 single kayaks, 3 tandem kayaks, and 2 stand-up paddleboards - all conveniently situated next to the new beach sidewalk.
The park further announced the first water temperature reading for the 2025 season. Officials said temperatures are averaged from multiple locations, measured at a depth of about 2 feet. The park said “It's time to grab your beach gear and head to one of our popular swimming areas”.
Temperatures were as follows: Kent Lake 65.4, Spring Mill Pond 66.2, and Trout Lake 66.1 degrees.
