Howell High School alumnus and current Vanderbilt University defensive tackle Mason Nelson is hosting his annual one-day Little Champs Football Camp next month.
Nelson told WHMI News that kids entering Kindergarten through 6th grade this fall, will learn drills and techniques from several division one players, like himself.
"We have a lot of defensive line drills, bag work, throwing drills where kids learn how to throw with specialists there. We'll also do some kicking drills," he says.
Last year's camp drew about 75 participants.
Mason, a former Western Michigan Bronco, will bring several of his former teammates, such as Howell native August Johanningsmeier, along with fellow Highlander and Michigan Wolverine Bobby Kanka, and Michigan State punter Carson Voss.
"We have an ice cream truck coming, thanks to our sponsor TDR Orthodontics," says Nelson. "At the end of the camp, we have posters and signings, and all the kids will get shirts for the camp."
Nelson's one-day Little Champs Football Camp is scheduled 6 pm to 7:30 pm July 7 at Howell High School. Pre-registration is $40, or $50 the day of.
