Fowlerville Community Schools Superintendent Matthew Stuard is sticking around at least another three years. The Board of Education last week unanimously approved a contract through June 30, 2028.

Stuard was hired as the Superintendent in May 2023 after serving as the Executive Director of Curriculum at Mason Public Schools.

According to a release, during Stuard’s time at Fowlerville, the district has made significant strides in the areas of academic progress, facilities and capital improvements as well as financial stewardship.

Some of the highlights include:

• Launched Magnetic, a new K-5 English Language Arts (ELA) curriculum aimed at improving literacy for our youngest learners.

• Implemented a comprehensive Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) for both academics and behavior across the district to support struggling students and streamline interventions.

• Fowlerville Junior High and High School were both named Capturing Kids’ Hearts Showcase Schools receiving national recognition for cultivating a positive school environment and strong student relationships.

• Successfully opened the newly constructed Fowlerville Elementary School in January 2025, with all new furniture and technology, improved instructional spaces, safety and overall student experience.

• Resurfaced the Fowlerville Junior High School Gym and installed new bleachers during the summer of 2024.

• Oversaw the installation of a new natural grass infield within the track, enhancing the space for football practice and other athletic uses this summer.

• Continued oversight of the ongoing renovations of the former Smith Elementary School to transform it into the new home of the Little Glad Early Childhood Center, expanding early childhood programming and access.

• Continued oversight of the HVAC upgrades across all school buildings as part of the 2021 Bond projects, which will include air conditioning in all instructional spaces for the 2025-26 school year.

• Received a clean, unmodified audit in the Fall 2024 demonstrating strong financial responsibility and sound financial management.

• Secured two-year agreements in the past year with the Fowlerville Education Association, the Fowlerville Food and Nutrition Service Association and the Fowlerville Educational Transportation Association.

“From day one, Mr. Matt Stuard has effectively managed ongoing district matters while simultaneously addressing the daily responsibilities of the superintendency,” noted Board President, Amy Sova.

“He maintains clear and consistent communication with the board through weekly updates. Matt has also assembled a strong administrative team that is aligned with the board’s goals and vision for the district, while actively implementing board directives,” Sova also noted.

Stuard holds a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership, and a bachelor’s degree, both from Eastern Michigan University. He also completed a preparation program for new and aspiring superintendents that provides embedded opportunities to learn the skills and proficiencies for district leadership.

“I’m honored by the Board’s unanimous decision to extend my contract. Their continued confidence in me and the progress we’ve made since I began serving as Superintendent means a great deal,” Stuard said.

“I remain committed to our students, staff and community as we build on the momentum of the past two years and continue working toward a strong future.”
