Michigan’s “fireworks window” is officially open.
Beginning June 29, fireworks can be used between 11 a.m. and 11:45 p.m. The window closes on July 5, per state law linked below.
“Fireworks cannot be used on public property, school property, church property or the property of another person without their express permission,” a post on the MSP Second District X account said. “This includes the street in front of your home.”
Local governments may have other rules that regulate the use of fireworks. You should always check with your local government to ensure you are in compliance.
“As always, be respectful and kind,” the X post said. “Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. Check with your neighbors and see how it will impact them. Sometimes it is just better to check out the professional shows.”
The Michigan DNR has a resource for veterans, pet owners and others who are affected by loud fireworks that has a list of camping locations that are further from traditional fireworks displays. The link to their “Fireworks-Free Fourth of July” is below.
