A man was killed in a worksite accident in Brighton Township.
On Monday at approximately 3:15pm, troopers from the Michigan State Brighton Post were dispatched to the area of Grand River near I-96.
Livingston County Dispatch received a call that a road crew worker was struck by an excavator while working on a job site.
Police say preliminary investigation shows the victim, a 23-year-old St. Clair Shores man, was working in an excavated hole in the road when he was struck by the excavator bucket. It appears the worker operating the excavator was not aware the victim was in the hole.
Upon Troopers arrival on scene, officers from the Brighton City Police Department were already administering medical care to the victim, who had sustained critical injuries.
The victim was transported to U of M Hospital in Ann Arbor, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Troopers were assisted by the Brighton Police and Fire Departments and Livingston County EMS.
Police said the incident appears to be a workplace accident, but the investigation is ongoing.
