Just in time for the holiday weekend and busy season, new improvements are debuting at the City of Howell’s popular Scofield Park.
Mayor Bob Ellis told WHMI they’ve replaced all of the bathrooms, and most recently two by the Thompson Lake beach with a new concession area. It’s anticipated the concessions will be operational next week.
All bathrooms are ADA-accessible, and there’s also an accessible kayak-launch.
New sand was also added to the beach area, which Ellis noted DPW staff regularly rakes and cleans. He added that in the past they’ve had some issues with geese spoiling the beach but they seem to have diminished.
Ellis said they’ve also done some grading of the parking area, to make it a little easier for residents and visitors.
Park and boat launch passes are available now at City Hall, with some changes. Ellis said the stickers were previously for Memorial Day to Labor Day but are now required year-round.
City residents get two annual passes, and Oceola Township residents get one annual boat launch pass.
Non-residents can buy a single-day pass at the kiosk at the park, or an annual pass at City Hall.
