Brighton Kiwanis’ 47th annual Concerts and Car Shows are back for another summer of fun.
Each Sunday will feature a different band, lots of cars and food trucks, which are new this year. The car shows start at 5:30 p.m. and the concerts start at 6:30 p.m. at Brighton High School.
Organizer Dennis Dimoff said car enthusiasts of all kinds are invited to show off their rides, adding that you don’t have to have a classic car to bring it down.
Attendees can also score a free goodie bag. Dimoff said there are 500 made up of things donated by their sponsors. They will be given out throughout the events.
The concerts and car shows are free to attend.
Parking for the public and the cars being shown are separate, and the owners of the cars on display aren’t required to stay through the concert. There is no prior registration for those interested in showing their cars off, they just need to come down to one of the events.
The concerts are:
- July 13 - Magic Bus: “It was the late 1960’s Psychedelic Music, Bell Bottom, Bead and Peace Signs! It was the Woodstock era. Repeated Detroit Music Awards and Hour Outstanding Tribute band. Get on the bus! Take a ride, relive the music.”
- July 20 - Your Generation: “Your Generation is a live multimedia spectacular celebrating 5 decades of pop, rock and R&B hits. YGIC transports the audience on a musical tour through the soundtracks of their lives and outstanding musicianship and remarkable vocals. YGIC has performed internationally and performed with Lenny Kravitz, Billy Joel, Sheryl Crow and Michael Bublé. One of the most demanded bands.”
- July 27 - Play Power Detroit: “A band that will keep you singing and dancing during their whole performance. From classic blues to fire and flare of rock ‘n roll. This cover band is one that you do not want to miss.”
- Aug. 3 - Persuasion Band: “This is a dynamic eight-piece party, dance and show band. They return to our concerts with the Motown Sound, Donna Summer (“MacArther Park”) songs and music of The Temptations, Aretha (“Pink Cadillac”) and Tina Turner (“Proud Mary”). A Brighton favorite! Get up and dance or sing along in your lawn chairs.”
- Aug. 10 - Infinity and Beyond - Journey Tribute: “They are considered one of the top tribute bands in the Midwest. They have performed at the Brighton Center for the Performing Arts and last year at the Brighton Kiwanis Concerts. The crowd danced and sang along to Journey Songs ‘Don’t Stop Believing,’ ‘Any Way, You Want It’ and ‘Separate Ways – World Apart.’”
- Aug. 17 - Ben Daniels Band: “Ben Daniels started as a natural poet then became a young songwriter then decided to be a musician. Many of the songs being performed have been written by Ben. Ben is the son of Jeff Daniels and has toured nationally.”
- Aug. 24 - Billy Mack and the Juke Box Johnnies featuring the Whatabouts: “If you like vintage R&B to Rock-a-Billy, this is the band that has it all. A special feature is the Whatabouts with music of the 50s and 60s.”
