The Road Commission for Oakland County is hosting an informational meeting later this month to outline an upcoming $11 million drainage and reconstruction project slated for downtown South Lyon next year.
"The bottom line is this project is intended to solve the flooding problem on Lafayette Street, or Pontiac Trail, through the downtown South Lyon area from the railroad tracks on the north, down to just south of 9 Mile on the south," said RCOC spokesman Craig Bryson.
"In addition to addressing the flooding problem, since we'll be disrupting the road, we're going to resurface and reconstruct that entire section of Pontiac Trail/Lafayette Street. When we're done, they'll get a road that no longer floods through downtown South Lyon, and that has a nice new surface on it."
The project is scheduled to begin in spring 2026 and be completed by fall.
"During the project, northbound Lafayette Street/Pontiac Trail will be closed. Southbound will remain open during the project," Bryson added.
The meeting will be held June 24, from 4 pm to 7pm at South Lyon High School’s Center for Active Adults at 1000 North Lafayette Street.
