This weekend is the 16th annual Lyon Township International Kite Festival featuring professional kiters from all over the United States and Canada.
The event is being held both Saturday and Sunday at James Atchison Memorial Park off Grand River in New Hudson.
The Windjammers Professional Kite flying returns again this year, choreographing their performances to music.
Jim Chuck, president of the Lyon Events Organization, says experts will be on-hand to give pointers to more novice kite fliers.
"Every child that comes in will get a free kite that they can decorate and fly," he says. "That is while supplies last, but we've never ever run out."
"We've got activities for the kids. We've got live entertainment. The BFE (Blaine Fowler Experience) will be performing. We have dance acts. It's just a great time, family-fun environment."
Detroit Lions great Herman Moore will be hosting a meet-and-greet from noon until 1 pm Saturday.
It's all available for a small parking donation.
"We do ask for a $10 donation to park, which goes back into maintenance of the park. Once you're in, everything is free," says Chuck. "If you would like, you can bring a picnic lunch. There are tables. You can spend the entire day there and it will cost you nothing."
