A well-known, longtime local official is starting his next chapter.

Hamburg Township Supervisor Pat Hohl is retiring at the end of the month after more than four decades of service to the community. He’s spent 17 years in the supervisor role but has 40 years of service to the township in various elected and appointed capacities – starting out in 1985 on the Planning Commission.

Hohl told WHMI he has thoroughly enjoyed his service to the township - and it has been very rewarding and very fulfilling. However having been around the township since the mid-80’s in various positions, he said there “just comes time when it’s time to move on”.

While the position of supervisor is very fulfilling, Hohl said it can also be very demanding – noting there’s a lot of evening meetings and he tries to make himself available to residents, so his cell phone number is also out there. He said times, calls on evenings and weekends become arduous and it’s just a time in his life to move on, relax a little, and do some other things.

Hohl specifically pointed out that all of the support and cooperation from Livingston County has been phenomenal the entire time he’s been involved in the township. He said this is a tremendous community and “we are so blessed to have the people that we do at the local level and up at the county level to work together to help address the problems and serve our residents in Livingston County and Hamburg Township”.

The Board of Trustees met this week and formally accepted Hohl’s letter of resignation -effective June 30th.

The letter to the board states the following:

As discussed with the Board of Trustees at public meetings for the past year, the Lord is taking my life in a significantly different direction. Please accept this letter of resignation from my position as Hamburg Township Supervisor effective June 30, 2025. My 17 years as Hamburg Township Supervisor, and 40 years of service to the township in various elected and appointed capacities, has given me great joy and personal fulfillment. love this township and its abundant natural beauty, the wonderful support provided by the various departments in Livingston County, but most of all I love our Hamburg Township residents, our department heads and our staff. I will miss you all.

Sincerely,
Pat Hohl
Hamburg Township Supervisor

Hohl will be staying on with the township in a consulting role to aid in the transition process. He’ll serve on a limited, part-time basis for one year to provide consulting and historical perspective. However, Hohl said he will make himself available long after that if there is ever a problem at the township that he can help with.

Separately, the board has appointed Treasurer Jason Negri to the vacant supervisor position effective July 1st. He’ll serve until the August Primary Election next year.

Clerk Mike Dolan commented he appreciated Hohl’s willingness to stay on as a consultant to Negri in his new endeavors.

The board will also now need to appoint a new treasurer, who would also serve until next August and would also need to run to retain the position.

The board will be holding future discussions on whether to advertise or promote from within as the deputy treasurer was said to have worked for the township for several years and is doing an excellent job. Part of that conversation will also be whether the position should remain part-time or become full-time.
