The City of Wixom's painted bikes have re-appeared in time for summer.

DDA Director Laura Cloutier says the annual public art display started a couple of years ago to bring awareness to the nearby Michigan Air Line Trail.

"We have refurbished them and repainted them some bright new colors, and put them in new spots around town," she said. "And we've added some spring and summertime artwork of butterflies, flower, humming birds and dragonflies. It really gives a vibrancy and renewed life to our downtown, coming out of the winter."

Wixom's painted bikes are now scattered around town to promote the city's social district and local businesses.

"Public art is something that brings people to communities. It ignites the imagination, instills different emotions in people. Just makes people feel good," said Cloutier.

"We hope to add some murals around town in the next few years. You should see a lot of changes, and a lot of new public art possibly coming to downtown Wixom."

The first of Wixom's annual Family Fun Nights and Summer Concert series is scheduled Thursday evening at Sibley Park, along with many other events.

"Many of our businesses are hosting theme nights," said Cloutier. "The Wixom Bar is hosting a classic car night on Saturdays. They're also hosting a bike night on Thursday nights. Check them out on their social media for more information on that."
