New, ever-popular pickleball courts are coming to Marion Township.

The pickleball courts will be located at the township’s Fred Brown Memorial Park on Triangle Lake Road.

Clerk Tammy Beal told WHMI it all started last fall when a resident inquired about donating funds for some sort of recreation in Marion Township. She suggested pickleball courts, as it is one of the fastest growing sports and courts are in big demand.

Estimates were obtained and presented to the Board of Trustees, with a request to match the resident’s donation and build two more courts for a total of four pickleball courts. Beal said the Board agreed, and they are now working out the details.

The courts will be situated side by side with a 4’ fence dividing the courts. There will be a 10’ high fence surrounding them with three entrances into the courts.

At this time, Beal said they won’t be putting any benches around the courts but hope to build a pavilion with picnic tables next spring, adjacent to the courts. The hours of operation will be dawn to dusk.

The project continues to progress and Beal said hopefully the new courts will be ready by late August or early September.
