A woman is hospitalized in critical condition following a serious ATV crash in Deerfield Township.

Deputies with the Livingston County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to an ATV injury crash on Wiggins Road, north of Dean Road, shortly before 11am Wednesday.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a 27-year-old Brighton man was traveling south on Wiggins Road when his 39-year-old female passenger from Howell was ejected from the ATV. The passenger's foot became entangled in the rear wheel which resulted in her being ejected from the ATV.

The Sheriff’s Office said the ATV was designed for one juvenile rider.

The passenger of the ATV was transported to the U of M in Ann Arbor by Livingston County EMS in critical condition. The ATV operator sustained no injuries.

The Office said neither the ATV operator nor passenger were wearing helmets at the time of the incident.

Alcohol and speed do not appear be contributing factors in the crash. The roadway remained closed for two hours for the investigation and clean-up.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Hartland Deerfield Fire Authority and Livingston County EMS.

The incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff's Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
