Memorial Day weekend marks the annual Rolling Thunder "Ride to Freedom" honoring Michigan POW-MIAs. This year's ride Sunday, running from Farmington Hills to Lansing.
"It all started back in 1987. There were about 2,500 bikes in Washington, D.C. They wanted to bring awareness, now there are still over 80,000 missing, to bring them home. All of veterans that have died, and their remains are overseas, to bring them home," said Michigan's Chapter 5 President April Long.
As for Sunday's ride, Long says its an early start down at Motor City Harley in Farmington Hills.
"They kick off around 8:30 am, and then they'll go to Lansing at full throttle. They'll meet up with two other chapters, and I believe a chapter from Wisconsin is joining us this year," she said.
"Then we're going to do a whole circle around our state capitol, and have a ceremony honoring our POW-MIAs."
Rolling Thunder's East Michigan Chapter also will host a flag raising ceremony and pre-ride events Saturday at Motor City Harley as well.
If you can't make this weekend's ride, Texas Roadhouse in Brighton is donating 10-percent of all food proceeds to Rolling Thunder from 3pm to 10pm Wednesday.
