New listings, closed sales and pending sales of single-family homes were all up across Southeast Michigan in April, compared to March.

"When you see more closed sales it means there's been more inventory to sell, there's been more buyers to buy. The overall activity is up, which means people are more positive," Brighton realtor Scott Griffith told WHMI News.

"We're in a period where we had sort of a rate shock for interest rates, but they've been the same for over a year, and yet the market seems to be increasing. That means people are becoming more comfortable with interest rates, or acceptable of them."

According to housing data firm Realcomp, the median sales price in Livingston County was just over $392,000 last month, compared to $403,700 nationally.

"We are becoming, in Livingston County, very close to the national average for the median price. It has not always been that way, because we're in the Midwest and some of the high expense areas weigh out against us, we are now suddenly becoming the average of the nation," Griffith added.

"It doesn't change how people buy or sell, but it does reflect on how desirable our community is."

Meanwhile, the median sales price for single-family home was $410,000 in Washtenaw County last month, $355,000 in Oakland County and just under $199,000 in Genesee County.
