A Grand Blanc man was seriously injured in a four-car crash on northbound U.S. 23 in Tyrone Township Monday afternoon. The Livingston County Sheriff's Office reports it happened around 4:34 pm north of White Lake Road.
According to a release, the preliminary investigation indicates that a 2017 Chevrolet Express van was traveling north on US23 Highway when the driver identified as a 48-year-old male Flushing resident was unable to stop for traffic ahead. The Chevrolet express van crashed into the rear of a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox that was being operated by a 67-year-old male Grand Blanc resident, which was slowing for stopped traffic.
The Chevrolet Equinox was pushed forward and crashed into the rear of a 2018 Ford Escape being operated by a 22-year-old female Norway Michigan resident.
The 2018 Ford Escape was then pushed forward and crashed into the rear of a 2008 Honda Accord being operated by a 20-year-old female Fairview resident.
The Chevrolet Equinox driver was transported by EMS to Henry Ford Genesys Hospital in serious condition. The Chevrolet Express driver was transported to Hurley Medical Center with minor injuries. The Ford Escape driver and Honda Accord driver were released on scene with no injuries.
Alcohol and seat belt use do not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash. The highway remained closed for approximately four hours for the investigation and clean up.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Fenton City Fire Department, Livingston County EMS, and Michigan Department of Transportation.
