There has been a change in the procedure for cars that will be in the Kiwanis Club’s “Brighton Classic Cars on Main Street” show starting this weekend.

The Classic Car show was canceled for a couple of weeks due to problems with entrants not adhering to the rules and not enough volunteers to police the event.

When it was canceled, a lot of car enthusiasts who love the show worked feverishly to bring it back, coordinating with the city of Brighton and its police and fire depts. With a tightening of the rules, the city gave its approval, and Kiwanis official Dennis Dimoff told WHMI it returned in fine fashion last Sunday with no problems. Dimoff is in charge of the weekly summer event.

There will be one change for future shows, however. Dimoff says, in order to avoid traffic congestion at the busy Grand River/Main St. corner, officials have decided — with the city’s approval — to change the staging area to the Meijer parking lot on North Second. That way, the entrants won’t have to cross the busy intersection.

The actual staging area will be on the north side of the parking lot, next to the Huntington Bank at Grand River and Charles Orndorf Drive. Those who plan to enter their classic or antique car in the car show will be instructed to arrive beginning at 4:30pm Sunday to register and obtain their wrist bands, until they run out.
