Crews are said to be making great progress on a roundabout construction project.

Work has been underway at the intersection of Pontiac Trail and North Territorial Road in Salem Township.

The Washtenaw County Road Commission’s contractor began placing concrete curb last week. Once curb has been placed, it takes a couple of days to cure.

For homes and businesses in the work zone, officials say access will be maintained to driveways during the concrete pour with part-width openings. They ask that people follow all instructions from the crew onsite to make sure wet concrete isn’t damaged.

Once all the curbs have been placed, the contractor will continue with earthwork and grading of the site.

The Road Commission reminds that the intersection remains closed to all thru-traffic. Access for those who live on Dutch Hill Drive and those traveling to businesses located at the intersection will be provided but no traffic will be allowed to traverse the intersection itself.

Law enforcement is continuing to issue tickets to those who attempt to violate the closure.

Motorists should follow the posted detour or take an alternate route.
