The Walk to End Alzheimer’s for Livingston County is this Saturday in downtown Brighton.

All funds raised through the walk further the care, support and research efforts of the non-profit Alzheimer's Association. As of mid-week, 576 participants and 139 teams had raised more than $202,000 of a $250,000 goal.

Those interested in walking are required to register, including children. Registration opens at 9am. A ceremony starts at 10:30am and the walk follows at 10:45am. The route length is 1-mile along Main Street and the Mill Pond. Main Street will be closed to traffic during the event.

There is no registration fee for the event but participants are encouraged to make a personal donation and commit to raising funds in the fight against Alzheimer's.

Each registered participant will receive a Promise Garden flower. There are different colors to represent an individual’s personal connection to the disease. Blue represents someone living with Alzheimer's or another dementia, purple is for those who have lost someone to the disease, yellow represents someone who is currently supporting or caring for a person living with Alzheimer's, and orange is for those who support the cause.
