Searchers spent Monday looking for a plane registered to a Livingston County company that went missing over the weekend over Lake Michigan.

The Benzie County Sheriff said the single-engine Beechcraft 35 Bonanza went missing between 8 and 8:30pm Sunday about four miles west of Frankfort. Officials said the plane involved is registered to Evergreen Exploration of Howell. Two people were on board at the time of the crash, which officials believe happened about four and a half miles off shore in an area of water that is about 600 feet deep.

According to the Coast Guard, a report came in from the Minneapolis center regarding a plane traveling from Ontonagon to Monroe that was experiencing engine problems. U.S. Coast Guard helicopter crews from Air Station Detroit and Air Station Traverse City assisted in the search effort near Frankfort. (JK)
