An event that supports early childhood literacy is returning this weekend.

Family Fun Day: Celebrate Early Childhood is sponsored by the Livingston Early Literacy Collaborative. It includes the six Livingston County Libraries, Great Start Livingston, Child Connect for Family Success, LESA Early Childhood Program, and Michigan State University Extension.

Kids, families, and friends are invited to attend. The event will feature an interactive music concert with Beverly Meyer – The Music Lady. Families will also receive a free activity bag that includes new books, a puzzle, and an early literacy craft that encourages language and pre-reading skill development.

Organizers say the event is important because it helps show families how fun and easy it is to teach simple early literacy skills that can be done at home or on the go. They say when engaging with kids - whether singing, dancing, writing, talking or playing - children are learning about language and the world around them, and parents are setting a foundation for their success in school.

Family Fun Day will take place on Saturday from 10:15 - 11:15 am at 2/42 Church on Grand River in Genoa Township.
