A pair of candidates for office including Secretary of State will be speaking to local Democrats at their upcoming meeting. Jocelyn Benson and Jordan Acker will be guest speakers at the next meeting of Livingston County Democrats. Benson, running for Secretary of State, is the former dean of the Wayne State University Law School, and will be the featured speaker. While there, she was responsible for freezing tuition rates and expanding access to scholarship funds for students. She has also written a book on the secretary of state’s role in enforcing election and campaign finance law. Currently Benson serves as the CEO and Executive Director of the Ross Initiative in Sports for Equality.

Jordan Acker, a candidate for the Democratic nomination for a seat on the University of Michigan Board of Regents will also speak. Currently an attorney, Acker graduated from U of M and has worked closely with the House Judiciary Committee and Homeland Security during both the Bush and Obama Administrations.

The meeting will take place next Thursday night at 7pm at the RE/Max Platinum Auditorium on Grand River between Brighton and Howell. Those interested in attending are advised to park in the back, use the rear entrance, and arrive early. (MK)
