School Social Worker-Elementary

 Location:  Lakewood Elementary, Kurtz Elementary

Date Available:
  As soon as possible

Salary:  Per HVEA Contract

Qualifications:

  1. Must hold Master's degree in Social Work.
  2. Must hold valid Michigan certification for Social Work.
  3. Must hold a SSW-310 recommendation for temporary school Social Work approval from a University
  4. Or hold Full School Certification through MDE
  5. Experience with school-aged individuals.
  6. Experience with social and/or school counseling.
  7. Commitment to work collaboratively and establish and maintain trusting, effective relationships with staff, students and parents.
  8. Strong oral and written communication skills.

 

Description:

  1. Interview and counsel students and their families individually; in families, or in groups, assessing their situations, capabilities and needs as they pertain to the educational development of the students
  2. Pro-actively engage parent(s) in examining how the school and home can effectively work together to improve the overall educational success of the student
  3. Communicate student progress with classroom teacher and building administrator
  4. Utilize assessments to further support students social-emotional well-being
  5. Maintain confidentiality of student, staff and family information
  6. Provide support to students and families relative to students' educational progress, community advocacy and referrals
  7. Perform other duties as related to and allowed according to the special education guidelines
  8. Perform duties as related and allowed in accordance with 31a and Title I guidelines as required
  9. Participate in Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
  10. Understand and support Huron Valley's State & Federal Program objectives

 EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:  Master’s Degree or higher.

 

LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONIING SKILLS: Ability to speak and write effectively.  Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations.  Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
