The Michigan High School Athletic Association announced on Thursday that it will offer girls wrestling next winter. Girls will compete in 14 weight divisions at an individual state tournament at a site to be named. They also can compete on boys' teams and compete in the boys' individual tournament if they want to do that rather than c compete in the girls' meet. The MHSAA also announced that fall sports practices will all begin on the same day, rather than football on a Monday and the rest of the sports the following Wednesday. Fall sports will begin state-wide on August 9th this year.

Howell High School honored athletes that have signed letters of intent or have committed to play at Division III schools. They include baseball’s Adam Mrakitsch and softball’s Maddie Springer, who both signed with Central Michigan; Avery Wolverton, who will play softball at Furman; swimmers Brianna Brunk and Will Morrison, who will attend Millikin University and the University of Tennessee Southern, respectively; football players Grant Porter, who will play at Grand Valley, Marcus Chidester, who will attend Lawrence Tech, and Zach Metz, who will attend Kalamazoo College; baseball’s Casey Pezzoni, who will attend Macomb Community College; lacrosse players Jacob Weber, who is going to Aquinas College, and Cole Pearson, who is going to Alma; wrestler Zach Phifer, who will attend Adrian College; and soccer player Stephanie Strong, who has signed with Saginaw Valley.

On the field, the Howell baseball team overcame six errors to edge Northville 7-5. The Highlanders broke a 3-3 tie on Jackson Millitello’s two-run double with two outs in the top of the seventh. Owen Burke later drove in what proved to be the winning runs with a two-run single. Logan Leppek got the win in relief, while Justin Millitello got the save.
