The spring sports season got underway for several area teams on Wednesday. Brighton fell to Novi in baseball 11-8, while Pinckney lost to Eaton Rapids 8-6 and 18-3.

In softball, Brighton took two from Novi to begin the season when Leah Mullins scored on an error in the bottom of the 10th inning to win the nightcap 2-1 after winning the opener 4-3. Hartland took two from Northville in its season opener, 16-12 and 6-0. Kylie Swierkos drove in three runs in the opener and threw a 1-hitter in the nightcap.

In lacrosse, both of Brighton’s varsity teams won. Brighton’s A team beat Novi 23-1. Brenden Mercier had nine goals for the Bulldogs. The Brighton B team beat Ypsilanti Lincoln 23-1 behind six goals by Jake Marks. On the girl's side, Brighton beat Bloomfield Hills 16-2. Amanda Granader had eight goals to pace the Bulldogs.
