Fugitive team kills parole absconder in western Michigan

Orangeville Township, MI — A state team that searches for fugitives fatally shot a parole absconder in western Michigan. The shooting occurred Wednesday in a rural area in Orangeville Township in Barry County, 40 miles south of Grand Rapids. State police say the 41-year-old man was in a car with a woman. When officers approached, the man produced a sharp weapon and the scene turned into a hostage situation. The man was shot by a state police detective and a Corrections Department agent. The woman was injured.
